What should I do?
We get a few calls from people who have a BMS controls panel and they have a safety circuit indicator showing on the control panel.
99% of the time this will be
- You have had a fire alarm test.
- You or someone else has pushed the emergency stop button.
Fire Alarm Test
Your building through routine safety fire drills is subject to a fire alarm test. When this test is carried out a series of safety circuits in various pieces of plant are initiated.
The safety circuit on your control panel will shut down all main circuits do stop essential plant. This is a safety feature to stop things like air handling units or other plant from exacerbating a fire scenario.
Should this be a simple fire alarm test then the fire alarm unit will need to be manually reset.
Resolution: Establish it is not a genuine emergency. If not then reset the fire alarm panel to initiate a non fire status. The controls panel will return back to automatic mode.
Emergency Stop
Your plant room will have several emergency stop buttons located around the area. These are to use in the event of an emergency. If any of these are pressed in a genuine emergency or by accident / test then the safety circuit light will remain illuminated.
Resolution: Establish it is not a genuine emergency. Find the emergency stop button that has been pressed. Twist the head in order to reset the test or mistake.
Ok you have an issue. Lets get you sorted out then.
